John 15:5 describes Jesus as the vine and believers as the branches. A branch receives everything needed to sustain life from the vine and cannot survive without it. In the same way that a branch must stay attached to the vine to accomplish its purpose, we must stay connected to Jesus to accomplish His purpose for us.
